PERSONAL: To the KC Star: I do what I do only because I have such high expectations of you

I started reading the KC Star sports section when it was a top-10 sports section in the country, with voices like Posnanski and Whitlock and reporters who were really at the top of their game, like Bob Dutton and Jason King (I actually started before King took over the KU beat, to give you an idea). The section was consistently good, and I was young and naive, and the newspaper was big. It was a long time ago.

Needless to say, the section has fallen a ways.

Yesterday I tried injecting some humor into a comments section that is normally overly serious, filled with trollers and people who, generally speaking, need to do something other than post comments at the end of KC Star stories (people in need of spell-check, I should add). I commented at the end of this story:

-->“I signed the contract, and then I didn’t come through for the people I’m supposed to come through for. It was embarrassing. I didn’t do (well) enough.”

Did Jamaal Charles say "good" instead of "well" in the above quote? (Expletive) you, KC Star, for northeastern Caucasianizing a perfectly fine quote, and employing the parentheses usually reserved for expletives and clarification. FOR SHAME.

I don't really see anything worth censoring in the above, especially considering what normally slips through for public consumption, but, well, the comment got the axe. Censored again.

Maybe Charles said something other than "good." Who knows. An explanation would've been nice.

But now you've annoyed me yet again, KC Star, so I'm going to vent a little bit. Look at the photo here that ran with your article and the accompanying caption:

The Chiefs entered Sunday’s game against the Chargers as the NFL’s top rushing team, but Jamaal Charles (right) and his teammates found no running room in Kansas City’s 31-0 loss in San Diego.

You really had to identify Charles as the guy on the "right"? High school editors do better than this! Are you pulling interns from the UMKC Music Conservatory to do your online editing?

And then, Jesus fucking Christ, this:

Freshman Josh Selby will finally get a chance to play for KU on Saturday.

That caption is word-for-word what you printed.

Look at the picture. Look at the caption. Mind explaining why the No. 1 freshman as ranked by Rivals, who will play this Saturday in his first collegiate game, is wearing a FUCKING CAST????

If it's a stock picture, fucking say so. Don't be lazy.
